Protecting Furniture From Kids

Children are a wonderful, fun-filled addition to any family, but they can be extremely hard on furniture—especially if it wasn't meant for rough-housing kids. I learned this lesson the hard way after I brought my daughter home to a living room filed with cream-colored couches. Her bottles were constantly dripping everywhere, and it was frustrating to see how many stains they accumulated. This blog is all about helping parents to protect their furniture from their kids, so that you can like your house as much as you love them. In addition to making your house look great, protecting furniture can help you to keep your investments intact.

Tips For Purchasing Nursery Furniture

If you are planning on having a baby coming soon, it is important to make sure that you have a designated place for your baby to sleep and for a lot of the furniture and tools for the baby's care to be located. However, you might not know what kind of furniture to purchase for the nursery or the most effective way to get what you need. Here are some tips for purchasing furniture for your nursery while you're at the furniture store.

1. Look for Cribs That Are Made to Last

The most obvious thing that you need to get is a crib. There are two factors that you should consider when purchasing a crib. The first is how sturdy the crib is. A very light weight crib is going to be okay for a newborn but there is a good chance that your child is going to be using it until he or she is two or three years old. Your baby is going to grow and get heavier. You need a crib that is going to be able to handle this increased weight. When you are looking at cribs in stores, shake the crib slightly to make sure that it doesn't wobble around too much.

The second factor that you should look at is the size of the nursery in which you are going to putting the crib. If you are going to have a small room, you might want to consider getting a crib that has extra storage space that is built in, such as drawers where you can store diapers, toys, and other baby supplies.

If you are buying a crib secondhand, be sure that you are not using a drop side crib. These are considered to be dangerous.

2. Look for Dense Mattresses

The next thing that you need to look for is a mattress. You want to find a mattress that is specifically made for babies and toddlers, meaning that it will be safe for your child. You also want to find a relatively dense mattress. Babies need stability and support while they are sleeping. Firm mattresses that are able to resist you pressing your hand into them are going to be your best bet. Also make sure that the mattress that you are purchasing fits your crib exactly, meaning that there is no gap between the mattress and the walls of the crib.
